May 18, 1924 — July 24, 2016

William Dale Hahnlen Sr., 92, of Toledo, Ohio, was called home to be with his Lord and Savior July 24, 2016. Bill was born May18th,1924, and as he would say he was born between his father Frank Hahnlen, Sr., who was born on April 18th and his mother Ethel Watters Hahnlen who was born on June 18th. Bill grew up on the south side of Toledo and attended Newton Elementary School. He then went to Jones Junior High, where he met the love of his life Janet R. Stanton. Bill went on to Libby High School until 1942, enlisting in the Marine Corps, before graduating, to fight for his country in WWII. He returned home and married his sweetheart Janet on October 13th, 1944 (Friday the 13th), best day of his life! In 2002 he received his high school diploma with other fellow veterans. In 1945 he went to work for The Toledo Blade, being the first veteran to get on- the-job training, Bill also attended the University of Toledo for business and salesmanship training. He loved selling advertising for the newspaper and retired from The Blade in 1990. Bill was an avid bowler and golfer. He enjoyed camping in the summer with his family and friends at Bay Point, where he made lifelong friends and also made many friends as a Mason and Shriner. He will be missed greatly on Saturday mornings at Reynolds Garden Cafe where for the past ten years he bought breakfast for his 5 children, and their families; in-laws, nieces, nephews, cousins, great and great-great grandchildren, and friends and neighbors. At times there where from 10 to 25 people attending. He was preceded in death by his loving wife Janet, brother Frank, sisters Nola Miller, Ethel Cothern, and Helen Hahnlen. Bill's greatest blessings were his five children; daughters Judith Moore, Debbie Wingert, sons Bill Jr. (Kyle), Scott (Laurie), and Brian (Deb), 12 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, and 4 great-great grandchildren. A special thanks to Comfort Keepers for all their help the last two years and Hospice of Northwest Ohio. Visitation will be held at the Walter Funeral Home, 4653 Glendale Avenue, Toledo, Ohio on Tuesday, July 26th from 2 to 8 p.m. Funeral services will begin at the funeral home on Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. followed by burial with Military Honors at Toledo Memorial Park.
