Thomas L. Whiting, 83, of Curtice, OH, peacefully passed away on the morning of January 18, 2023.
Tom was born on October 3, 1939, to Merton and Kate Whiting, in Toledo, OH. Tom was a professional student who was determined to get his degree which he finally did in 1989 from the University of Toledo, after almost 25 years of attending classes. Tom was an avid Rocket fan and was often seen tailgating in Lot 10 before all the Rocket games with his friends and family.
When Tom wasn’t attending classes, he could be found spending time with his family. He was a proud father, coach, and mentor who never turned a kid away and was always willing to help anyone who needed it. Tom also enjoyed participating in sports and was an exceptional bowler, boxer, and basketball player.
Tom spent 42 years working for Libbey Glass, where he spent most of his years there as a Cafeteria Manager. He had many fond memories and lifelong friendships formed because of his years at Libbey.
In 1989, Tom was lucky enough to meet his loving and caring wife Linda, who provided remarkable care for him especially over the last few challenging years of his life. Together Tom and Linda could be found traveling out west to Phoenix and Las Vegas quite frequently and enjoying one another’s company.
While Tom’s children were growing up, the family would spend their Saturday’s enjoying YumYum’s hot dogs. Tom could often be seen snacking on a 5th Avenue and enjoying a refreshing Pepsi. Tom was a devoted catholic and was a longtime parishioner at St. Michael’s Church. He was very passionate and involved in his local community, he even founded the Annual Galena Street Reunion.
Over the last few years Tom, Linda, and Charlie leaned on and received wonderful support from their neighbors Jim and Suny. Tom was full of personality and could be found quite frequently cracking jokes or making up catchy rhymes.
On the fateful day of Tom’s passing, he was reunited with those who preceded his death, especially his parents Merton and Kate, and his brother Richard.
Tom is survived and missed by his loving wife, Linda, favorite dog and companion Charlie, and his children, Don (Deb), Doug (Shonna), Robin, Traci (Eric), Joey, and Jimmy (Angie) and sister Kay. He will forever be remembered and cherished by his grandchildren, Chris (Starla) and Bryan Whiting, Lindsey (Eric) Oehlers, Kelsey and Robbie (Allie) Bekier, and Zack (Hannah) and Andrew (Kyleigh) Whiting, Ryan, Riley, and Rachel Connor and his 6 great grandchildren, Mya, Anna, Kasey, Adelynn, Ava, Nolan, and Erilynn.
Visitation will be held at Walter Funeral Home, 4653 Glendale Ave. on Wednesday Jan 25th from 3-6 pm with a memorial service at 6pm. In Lieu of flowers the family requests donation to be made to the "Charlie" fund at the Temperance Animal Hospital.
