Shirley L. Ervin

October 16, 1939 — June 21, 2023

“A life well lived is a precious gift of hope and strength and grace from someone who has made our world a brighter, better place.” - Anonymous

Shirley Louise Ervin, age 83, of Toledo Ohio passed away peacefully Wednesday June 21, 2023. She was born on October 16, 1939 to Kenneth and Ida Fisher. Upon graduation from Central Catholic High School, Shirley married the love of her life William on June 21, 1957. They would spend the next 66 years creating a life they were both so proud of, which included six children; William, Michael, Susan, Joy-Ann, Patricia, and Robert and eight grandchildren; Jessica, Stephen, Rebekah (Michael), Sara (Steve), David, Thomas, Jacob, and Sydney. As well as five great-grandchildren.

Shirley loved her sweets, traveling, taking long drives and bus trips, jig saw puzzles, spending time with her family, and playing bunco for over 25 years with her friends. Some of her most treasured places she and William traveled were Ireland, Alaska, and Hawaii. They also enjoyed taking trips to the casino to play the slots - 25 dollars at a time. No more, no less.

Everyone who knew her, knew how much her family meant and how proud she was of all her grandchildren. If there was a band concert, graduation, dance recital, or soccer game you can bet that somewhere in the crowd were Shirley and William beaming with pride.

A devout Catholic, most recently a parishioner at St. Patrick’s of Heatherdowns, spent her life in dedication to the Lord. Visiting confession often, as she felt was her duty. While she was unable to attend Mass or confession in recent years, she and William were able to spend the last year with a weekly visit from their pastor, Father Dave, receiving the Eucharist and spending hours discussing their faith, and of course their family.

The Ervins will be receiving friends and family for a visitation at Walter Funeral Home, 4653 Glendale Ave. Toledo on Wednesday, June 28th from 5-8pm.

Funeral Services will begin with prayers on Thursday, June 29th at 9:30 am followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Patrick of Heatherdowns at 10 am. Burial will follow at Resurrection Cemetery. The family asks that any gifts or donations be given to the Wounded Warrior Project.
