Robert C. Hurst

Robert C. Hurst, 74, passed away on Friday, February 19, 2016. He was born on December 5th, 1941 to Robert Lee Hurst and Margaret Mae Osborn Hurst in Toledo. During his youth, Robert was a Boy Scout as well as an active member of the Second Baptist Church’s youth group. Later, he graduated in 1959 from Olney High School in Northwood, OH and went on to attend the University of Toledo for three years. As an adult, Robert worked for the YMCA before entering his career at Owens Illinois as a Blow Mold Forming Specialist in their research and technology department, first for glass, then for plastics. He retired in 2000 after working there for over 30 years. On June 19, 1965 he married the love of his life, Judith M. Scott, and together they celebrated their 50th anniversary this past summer. Robert was a gifted do-it-yourself handyman and jury rigger, completing many father son projects at Bear Lake where he loved to spend time with his family. The property was purchased in 1970 and has been a family joy ever since. Robert was an incredibly loving, patient father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He was well liked and respected by his many friends and family. He is preceded in death by his parents and his son, Scotty. Robert is survived by his loving wife, Judy (Scott) Hurst, daughters, Cindy (Glenn) Zielinski and Bonnie (Ken) Herrmann, his sister, Karen (Clyde Sharlow) Almester, grandchildren, Alexandria (Adam), Jac, Andrew, Miranda, Cassie and Charlie, and his great-grandson, Ryder. Friends and family may call to Walter Funeral Home, 4653 Glendale Ave, Toledo on Tuesday, February 23, from 2pm to 8pm. Services will be held on Wednesday, February 24, at the funeral home, at 1:30 pm. Interment to follow at Ft. Meigs Cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Holy Trinity Lutheran Church Food Pantry 1825 Glendale Ave, Toledo.
