Richard William (Dick) Morrow, 96, once referred to as the smiling Irishman with twinkling eyes, met his Lord on December 27, 2022. He and his twin brother Robert were born to Samuel and Ethel Morrow November 17, 1926 in Parker Pennsylvania and raised as one of 10 siblings during the Great Depression. It was during this time that he learned the value of family and hard work, and he passed that value on to his family. He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings; Sara Ross, Virginia Bowers, Kenneth Morrow, Samuel Morrow, Kathryn Sue Baker, Ellen Jean McNeal, Howard Morrow, and Robert Morrow. His youngest brother Rev. John Morrow remains to tell stories of the Morrow Clan of Poland Center.
Dick was married to his beloved wife Nancy Lee for 53 years until she passed in May 2012. He had four children, Linda (Donald Root), Robert (Janelle) Morrow, Richard Morrow, and Ronald (Denise) Morrow. He was blessed with 11 grandchildren; Melissa Beachman, Don Root, Sebrina Bent, Kristin Skotynski, Tasha Butte, Sarah McCormick, Sylvie Domigan, Hannah Morrow, Aaron Morrow, Ryan Morrow, and Haley Morrow, as well as 8 great grandchildren. He and Nancy also fostered 4 nieces and nephews. Their home was welcoming, and their table could always seat and feed extras during family meals.
Dick was a man of many passions. He loved and served God for many years at his church, Calvary United Methodist. He served with the Mountaintop Great Banquet for more than 30 years and mentored men at the Salvation Army. He had a gift for playing the organ and harmonica by ear and would often spend quiet time playing the old hymns. He loved spending time camping and sitting around a campfire with family telling stories or out on his boat fishing with friends.
Early on he spent a stint working for the railroad as a brakeman, but Dick’s calling was in sales. He began his training in sales early on when he and his siblings sold produce by the side of the road in Poland Center, Ohio. Over his lifetime he sold many things including prefab Albee homes and door to door Kirby vacuums. His career path took him to Sears where he spent most of his years there selling appliances.
His jobs took him from the Youngstown, Ohio area to Mount Clemens, Michigan and finally landing in Toledo, OH where he and Nancy raised their family.
Visitation for Dick will be held Monday January 2, 2023 from 2-8 PM at the Walter Funeral Home, 4653 Glendale Ave., where services will be held on Tuesday, January 3, 2023 at 10 AM. Interment will follow at Highland Memory Gardens. Those planning an expression of sympathy are asked to consider contributions to the Salvation Army.
