Richard M. Nagel

Richard (Dick) Manly Nagel, 73, of Toledo OH, died December 8, 2016, at Hospice of Northwest Ohio. Dick was born in Toledo on February 24, 1943 to Ruth (Hoyle) Nagel and Robert R. Nagel. He graduated from Rogers High School in 1961. After graduating from The Ohio State University Dick went on to serve his country in the Army and later pursued masters degrees from UCLA and The University of Toledo. Dick worked for many years in Human Relations as an Industrial Psychologist then switched to education in 1981 as a counselor for St. John’s Jesuit and later as a school psychologist for Toledo Public Schools. One of Dick’s greatest passions was being on or near the water, either sailing or kayaking. He was an avid wind surfer and enjoyed sharing his skills with others wanting to learn the sport. In the winter months Dick enjoyed snow skiing and was a long-time member of the Toledo Ski Club. Dogs, especially, golden retrievers held a special place in Dick’s heart and he volunteered for Golden Retriever Rescue, loving each dog he transported. Zoe, his beloved golden companion, was adopted through Golden Retriever Rescue. He also volunteered for the Toledo Humane Society. Dick was an active member of Zion United Methodist Church where he was involved in many humanitarian and community efforts. Richard was quick to lend a hand to those in need. Dick’s story would not be complete without mentioning his love for the Ohio State Buckeyes. Dick is survived by his loving wife of 30 years, Bonnie (Dixon) Nagel, his daughters Anne (Bryan) Murphy of Columbus, OH and Cortney (Gregg) Sweet of Parsons, KS, granddaughter Jane Murphy, and sister Rosalyn (Martin) Mathias of Powhaten, VA. Dick is also survived by several nieces and nephews. Dick was preceded in death by his parents. Friends may visit the family on December 19 from 4:00 – 8:00 p.m. at Walter’s Funeral Home, 4653 Glendale Ave. A Celebration of Life Memorial will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, December 20, at Zion United Methodist Church, 2600 Copland Blvd, Toledo, OH 43614.
