Peter M. "Pete" Sawchuk

Peter Miles Sawchuk, 73, of Swanton, Ohio, passed away on Tuesday, January 19, 2016. Peter will be remembered as a fun and feisty brother, dad, uncle and grandpa, who always had a silly joke or a teasing game to play. As a young man, Peter proudly served his country as a U.S. Marine, stationed in Hawaii. After his military service, he developed a successful business career. Peter's spirit, work ethic, tenacity and humor are inspirations to all who knew and loved him. He will be missed by so many friends and family. Born February 8, 1942, in St. Paul, Minnesota, he was the son of Joseph Sawchuk and Charlotte (Sawchuk) Pastorius, both now deceased. Peter is also preceded in death by his wife, Karen (Westbeld) Sawchuk; son, Eric Sawchuk; daughter-in-law, Theresa; sister, Darlene Kovarik; and brothers-in-law Alvin Ward and Denny Pierce. Peter is survived by his beloved sisters, Sherri Ward, Joann (Don) Bergman, Penny (Claire) Pastorius, and Judy Pierce; children, Jennifer (Sawchuk) Hess, Scott (April) Ogelsbee, Jeff (Racheal) Ogelsbee and Zachary Sawchuk; and nine grandchildren, Griffen, Emmet, Kino, Jessica, Bella, Ayla, Clara, Karter and Ryder. The family will receive friends Monday, January 25, 2016, from 3:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Walter Funeral Home, 4653 Glendale Ave., Toledo, Ohio 43614. A service of remembrance will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, January 26, 2016, at Walter Funeral Home with Pastor Ed Strietelmaier officiating. A graveside service will be conducted following in Resurrection Cemetery, 5725 Hill Ave., Toledo, Ohio 43615.
