Patricia R. Hemple

Patricia “Pat” Hemple, 92, passed away on October 17, 2017, at Kingston Residence of Perrysburg, after a brief illness. Pat was born to A.G. and Helen Murray on March 12, 1925; her siblings were sister Jean and brother Gordon. She was the loving and devoted wife of John Hemple. All proceeded her in death. Pat is survived by daughter Christine (Greg) Reece, son Jack, and grandchildren, Laura and John Reece, along with many nieces and nephews. As south Toledo teens, Pat and her sister learned to knit from their mother, making hats, mittens, and scarfs for U.S. service men and women through the Red Cross/WWII support efforts. Pat continued this giving ministry through her whole life, knitting scores of socks, mittens, scarves, sweaters, and hats. Many were given as gifts to family and friends, but countless more donated to serve those in need. In recent years, she knitted hundreds of “Pat’s Hats” that were distributed through Mosaic Ministries to children in Toledo’s south end, in the same neighborhoods she called home for so many years. Pat’s life will be celebrated in a gathering of friends and family on Friday, October 20, at First Presbyterian Church in Maumee. Visitation starts at 10:30 a.m. in the church’s main entrance, followed by a memorial service in the historic chapel at 12 noon. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to First Presbyterian Church Maumee. All these funds will be directed through the church as “Pat’s Hats” to support Mosaic Ministries in Toledo’s historic south end.
