Leo H. Poenicke

December 29, 1929 — June 21, 2022

Leo H Poenicke, 92, died Tuesday, June 21, 2022 at Ohio Living Swan Creek, Toledo, OH. He was born Dec 29, 1929 to Hans A and Mary A (Fritz) Poenicke in Toledo. He was the president of the 1948 graduating class of Libbey High School and was married to Donna Jaeck on June 23, 1951. Leo was a carpenter by trade and spent most of his career as a project manager for Bostleman Corp, retiring in 1991. He was a talented and avid woodworker, designing and crafting pieces for family members. Well into his 80s, he made and gave away small wooden crosses, which have been distributed all over the United States and throughout the world as mission gifts. He was a faithful lifetime member of Zion Lutheran Church in Toledo, where he served on many boards, including terms as president of the congregation. Leo is survived by his wife, Donna; daughters, Sue (Gary) Bentley, Jane (Scott) Libbe, and Carol (Tim) Stansfield; grandchildren, Andrew (Nichole) Bentley, Amy (Scott) Shiffert, Katie (Jake) Sautter, Laura (Matt) Polachek, Sarah (Lynn) Groll, Mark (Nikki) Stansfield, Luke Stansfield, Ellen Stansfield; and 9 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Donald A Poenicke. There will be no visitation, and services will be private. The family suggests memorials to the Ohio Living Swan Creek Foundation, 5916 Cresthaven Lane, Toledo OH 43614. Well done, good and faithful servant.
