Karolyn “Corky” Suter passed away peacefully on May 31, 2023, at Hospice of Northwest Ohio. Corky was born June 25, 1932, and was quite the spirited child causing her mother to nickname her Corky that stuck ever since. She graduated from Notre Dame Academy with stellar grades and just a few demerits for her mischievous behavior. She married Durwood Lancaster (1932-2016) and set off to be the quintessential Air Force wife raising 5 children while moving 15 times along the East Coast. She is the loving mother of Marie Lancaster, Dan (Kellie) Lancaster, Dave (Connie) Lancaster, Becky Lancaster, and Kris Lancaster. Fun Grandma to Melissa Cruea, Amanda Lancaster, Carrie Gibson, Ashley Carino, Colin Kass, and Makenna Kass. She has 8 beautiful great grandchildren and many amazing nieces and nephews.
Corky was a very loving grandmother. She was the one who put the Tupperware in the bottom cabinet so a curious grandchild could think they were getting into something they shouldn’t. She kept her old clothes and put them in the bottom of her dresser so her granddaughters could find them and play dress up. And if we heard it once from her, we heard it a million times, “It’s a ghost!!” from the ending of the book “In a Dark, Dark Wood” by David Carter. She loved reading to her grandchildren and happily did so whenever asked. She was great at it.
Corky found her second love, William Suter at another love of hers, Church of the Cross. Mom had finally found her home in both Bill and the church, and she was elated and whole again. Her other devoted children, Pam (John) Korn, Lynn (Wally) Siler, Dave, who proceeded her in death (Sandy) Suter, and Barb (Brad) Christy are amazing people who cared for her as they would have their own beloved mother, Mildred who passed in 1992.
She is survived by her sister and partner in crime, Jackie Bennett.
