Jean C. Harler, 86, of Maumee passed away on November 23, 2024 at Ebeid Hospice of NW Ohio in Sylvania, Ohio. Jean was born on April 18, 1938 in Toledo to Virgil A. and Bernice (Snyder) McNamee. A graduate of Libbey High School, she devoted her life to her career and the care of her family and was extremely successful in both.
Jean worked at several companies including AAA Construction and Ace Appliance but spent 32 years with IBM Corporation as a Systems Engineer and Senior Marketing Representative. This was a remarkable accomplishment for a single woman with a family and required long hours and even time spent away from family to accomplish her goals. This included working for over a decade in the Dallas area and resulted in her becoming an executive with IBM.
She belonged to several organizations such as the Stained Glass Guild, The Toledo Zoo and being an avid animal lover she made frequent contributions to Nature’s Nursery. Jean loved to sing and dance and performed with Hank and Duke at the Heatherdowns Lounge. She also loved to travel, especially sailing, visiting most of the East coast and travelled the world throughout her life. She was adventurous and loved the time she could spend with family and travelling with them. Christmas breakfast was also something she loved and hosted a family and friends celebration for over 60 years. Jean was also a devoted Dallas Cowboys and University of Michigan football fan.
Jean was preceded in death by her parents, son William D. Harler and sister Barbara Pearson. She is survived by her daughter Kimberly A. (Gary) Harler-Pickard, son William E. (Shari) Harler. She is also survived by her grandsons David Pegorch and Jason (Tammy) Pegorch, niece Pamela Cooper and nephew Michael Cooper, as well as, Great Grandchildren: Alex, Andrew, Caitlyn, Jayden, Jason Jr., Kaleb and Grace and close friend Barbara Miller of 60+ years along with many other friends she loved.
The family will receive friends at the First Presbyterian Church Maumee, 200 E. Broadway, Maumee, Ohio on Saturday, December 7th 2024 from 11 AM – 1 PM. A Memorial Service will then begin at 1 PM. A private graveside service will be held at Ottawa Hills Memorial Park. Those planning an expression of sympathy are asked to consider Ebeid Hospice of NW Ohio or a charity of the donor’s choice. Arrangements by Walter Funeral Home, 4653 Glendale Ave., 419-382-1700.
