James “Jim” P. Bryan, passed away on July 11, 2022, at Kingston Care Center, Sylvania, Ohio at a well-lived age of 84. He was born to William Sr. and Edith Bryan in Toledo. After attending DeVilbiss High School in 1955, he joined the U.S. Air Force and was stationed at Dyes Air Force Base with the Strategic Air Command. He travelled the world for the next four years on active duty then later joined the Ohio Air National Guard. There he was called in to duty for the Cuban Missile Crisis in 1961 and served active for a year afterwards. He was appointed to the Toledo Police Department in 1964 working in uniform patrol, investigations, records, vice unit, and other specialized assignments. While serving with the police department, Jim attended the University of Toledo initially earning an associate degree up to a master’s degree and an education specialist degree (summa cum laude). He also attended the F.B.I. National Academy in Quantico, Virginia in 1980. Based on his law enforcement experience and advanced college degrees, he was granted a direct commission to Captain in the Army Reserve. He served as an officer with the 300th Military Police Command in Michigan in logistics and personnel assignments. He retired from the U.S. Army as a Major in 1993 and retired from the Toledo Police Department as a Sergeant in 1999. He later served as a Lieutenant Colonel in the Ohio Military Reserve. Liking to stay busy, he went to work as the village administrator in Pioneer, Ohio until 2010. Jim enjoyed competitive pistol shooting in the Army and auto maintenance. He was a big fan of classical music. He travelled frequently to Florida and enjoyed his trips to Hawaii. Jim is survived by his wife, Colleen, and sons Jeffrey (Joy) and Chad. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, William Bryan Jr. There will be no visitation and services will be private.
