Herbert L. Spann

Herbert L. Spann, 88, formerly of Toledo, Ohio, peacefully passed away at Rae-Ann Suburban Nursing Home in Westlake, Ohio on Wednesday, March 29, 2017. Born in 1928 in Springfield, Illinois, he was preceded in death by his 11 brothers and sisters and beloved wife of 49 years, Roberta (1999), and most recently by his companion of 14 years Maxine Teague (2015). He was former veteran of the United States Air Force, serving in the South Pacific during the Korean War. After spending most of his career in the automotive industry as a mechanical designer, he retired from Chrysler Automotive in 1989. A man of God, Herbert was active at Faith Lutheran Church until his move to Westlake in 2016. He also enjoyed bowling, golfing and gardening and was an avid card player. Herbert is survived by his daughter Beth Curtis (Mark) of Avon Lake, Ohio; his son Gary Spann (Denise) of Madison, Wisconsin; his son Guy Spann (Mary) of St. Petersburg, Florida and his son Mark Spann (Renee) of Toledo, Ohio. He is also survived by his eight grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren located throughout the United States. Visitations will be held at Walter Funeral Home, 4653 Glendale Ave, Toledo, OH, 43614 on Friday, April 7th from 4:00-8:00 pm and Saturday April 8th from 10:00-11:00 am. with funeral services commencing at 11:00 a.m. Interment will follow at Ottawa Hills Memorial Park.
