The Life of Harry David Myers Harry David Myers was born July 7th, 1918 in Rices Landing, PA. The Myers family moved to Morgantown, WV shortly after his birth. Harry was the seventh child of Lela (Willard) and George L. Myers, who was a Contractor and Builder in Morgantown for many years. Harry graduated from Morgantown High School on January 26th, 1936. Two years later he moved to Fairmont, WV, where he met and later married his wonderful wife Betty L. Rowan. Harry served in the US Navy during WW2, as an Aviation Radio Technician, from September 1942 to November 1945. After the war he worked as a salesman in a General Electric store in Fairmont, WV, and was transferred to Elyria, Ohio in 1953. In 1960, Harry began as a Business Promotion Representative for Columbia Gas of Ohio. In 1967 he was promoted to Business Promotion Manager and transferred to Toledo, Ohio. He later rose to the position of District Marketing Manager, which he retired from on January 1st, 1982. Harry was affiliated with, and served as an officer in several fraternal, civic, and business organizations, among them; President, Elkins Junior Chamber of Commerce; President, Producers Council, Cleveland Chapter; President, Toledo Exchange Club; Commodore, Maumee River Yacht Club; President, Compass Club of Toledo; and a member of Elks Lodge 53 BPOE, the Fraternal Order of the Eagles, the National American Legion, and the United Methodist Church of St. Andrew. Harry loved to read mystery novels, and spent many hours on his computer. He was an amateur radio operator, (call letters NX8U) and belonged to TMRA and the Navy Amateur Radio Club. He loved sharing jokes and stories about his life and misadventures. In the last few years of his life he lived at the Lakes of Monclova in Maumee, where he was beloved by the staff and residents alike, and was often referred to as the “Governor”. He was good friends with Jeff Borror, the facility administrator, and he and Harry’s best friend Paul made a special project out of creating a chapel for the use of the residents and staff. Most of all, Harry was proud of his family and treasured spending time with all of us. Harry’s wife and the love of his life, Betty, preceded him in death in 1997. Harry loved his family consisting of daughters Cass Davis and Donna Brown, son-in-law Jim Davis, grandchildren Sunni Winsted, Ian Myers, Laura Fleckenstein and family, Scott Brown and family, Ritchie Brown, Beth Shaffer and children. Ruth Bruntz, his close friend and companion for twelve years, passed away December 19th, 2010. Visitation will be held Thursday, July 28th at the Walter Funeral Home, 4653 Glendale Avenue, Toledo, Ohio from 4 to 8 p.m. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, July 30th at 10 a.m. at Church of St. ndrew United Methodist Church, 3620 Heatherdowns Blvd. Entombment will take place at Highland Memory Gardens, Waterville, Ohio.
