Gregg Allen Weaner

November 27, 1953 — November 10, 2022

Gregg Allen Weaner, age 68 of Toledo, passed away peacefully in his sleep on November 10, 2022, at Spring Meadows Assisted Living after a lifelong illness. He was born on November 27, 1953, in Toledo to Edgar and Twila (Kuhman) Weaner. At age six, he was diagnosed with insulin dependent diabetes and began attending Camp Za-Ni-Ka where made many lifelong friends and had attended there until its closure in 1974. Gregg graduated from DeVilbis High School, class of 1972 and later graduated from Bowling Green State University. He married Jeanne Schaffer on October 15, 1977, and she survives him. He was a member of the former Holy Cross Lutheran Church where he served as a Sunday school teacher, trustee, and President of the Congregation. Gregg was a teacher for many years with Toledo Public Schools where he taught wood shop and drivers education. He enjoyed working with wood, he often made and repaired items for family and friends. Gregg loved building and constructed a four-car garage, a two-story addition to his family home, and a cottage for his sister on Beaver Island. Gregg was an avid muscle car enthusiast; he owned and restored several vehicles during his lifetime. His most prized vehicle was a 1977 Pontiac Trans Am that he had bought new. Above all else, Gregg was a devoted husband, father, brother, uncle, and grandfather to his family. He will be dearly missed but we are comforted in the knowledge that he is now in the presence of the Lord.

Left to cherish his memory is his loving wife of 45 years, Jeanne Weaner; son, Eric; daughter, Leigh Anne (Don Jr.) Crouthamel; sisters, Sandra Michelsen and Kay Pflum; grandsons, Sully and Oscar Crouthamel; nephew, Mark Michelsen; niece, Kristin (Andy) Smith and their children, Joey, James and Katelynn; along with extended family and close friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers-in-law, James Michelsen and Joseph Pflum; aunt, Elaine Johnson, and many of his “dirty diabetic friends”.
