GERALD MICHAEL KORDIAC Gerald (Jerry), age 87, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, October 4th, at Hospice of Northwest Ohio. Jerry was born and raised in Cleveland and attended John Adams High School. He later went on to trade school to become a plumber. He started his apprenticeship earning 33 1/3 cents an hour before he became a Journeyman plumber. Jerry along with his brother Jim started the Kordiac Plumbing Company. Plumbing was his chosen career and one he mastered well. As a young boy, Jerry would take things apart just to see how they worked and loved the challenge of putting them back together again. As a result, he was truly a genius when it came to anything mechanical, or mathematical, for that matter. He was often heard saying that "If I can't fix it, it can't be fixed." And that was true. He passed that same confidence and philosophy on to his children. He also said he could move the Terminal Tower if he had a board long enough. And we believe he could have. Jerry's hobbies through the years included bowling, fishing and golf. He was keen on remembering the layout of every golf course he ever played. Beside his traveling leagues, he always looked forward to the annual spring Rini Golf Tour in Columbia, South Carolina. His first love, however, was cars. The classics were his favorites, especially the ones that needed the most work and were in the worst condition. He spent many nights working in "the barn" restoring and bringing them back to life, always working right alongside his two sons and their car buddies. No car was finished until it met his standard of perfection. Many of the lessons learned in the barn will never be forgotten. Thanks for teaching us, dad! Jerry was a proud member of a car club who call themselves The Rats. Jerry was preceded in death by his parents, Michael and Katherine( Katrenick) Kordiac, and his brother Jim. He is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Rosemarie; sons Michael (Karen) Kordiac and Robert Kordiac; daughter Barbara (Mike) Johnson; 5 grandchildren Matt ((Dana) Johnson, Katie (Dave) Schaff, Robbie (Desiree) Kordiac, Tyler Kordiac and Heather Kordiac; and 6 great grandchildren. Visitation will be held on Sunday, October 9th from 2 to 7 p.m. at the Ferfolia Funeral Home, 356 W. Aurora Rd., Northfield, Ohio. Jerry’s funeral service will be on Monday, October 10th at 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be in Northfield-Macedonia Cemetery. The family would like to thank Dr. Kevin Bogar and the many doctors who cared for dad throughout the years. Thank you also to Cleveland Clinic Home Health Care, Steve at Cleveland Clinic Hospice, and Hospice of Northwest Ohio in Toledo for the compassion and care they have shown our family during this season of our life.
