Frank Clifford Nelson

March 19, 1942 — May 11, 2017

Frank C Nelson, age 75, of Toledo, passed away May 11, 2017. He was born on March 19, 1942 to Arthur and Mary (Nohl) Nelson. He graduated Macomber HS in 1961 learning Radio/TV repair. He then served in the US Air Force from 1961-1965 during the Vietnam War. During his service he worked on jets and was a tail gunner for the Phantom RB-66 jet, He received awards for marksmanship and twice for Airman of the Month. He married Melva Bening in 1966. They loved having family/friend parties at their home, going to the Toledo Zoo and in their later years they loved traveling out west. Frank worked as a mechanic and eventually retired from Metropolitan Distributing. He always enjoyed tinkering with something, fixing and building things. He knew just about everything mechanical, electrical, construction and plumbing and was always willing to help family and friends with a project. He had an extreme love of model railroading and built an extensive layout in their home. He would spend hours with his grandchildren showing them how to run the trains. Frank was great son, brother, husband, father, grandfather, uncle and friend. Unfortunately, Parkinsons and Dementia took over his life about 8 years ago. The terrible disease slowly ate away at him, taking not only his ability to do all the stuff he loved, but his mind of how to do things and the memory of his loved ones. He eventually moved to the Glendale Assisted Living where he was lovingly taken care of by all the staff who adored his sense of humor and stories he would tell. There are so many staff members to thank who cared for him, but special thanks go out to his aids Casey and Joanie and his favorite nurse Sheena. Eventually the disease became too much and Hospice of Northwest Ohio entered his life. We cannot thank Hospice enough for all they did for him and especially in the last few days of his life. All the employees of Hospice are true angels and there are not enough words to express our gratitude to them. Frank was preceded in death by his parents, Arthur and Mary, brother Dee and sister Carol(Al) Lewis. He is survived by his wife, Melva, son Mark (Amy), step-son Richard (Lynn), grandkids, Christopher(Roni), Abbi, Kelsey, Matt and grand dog, Snowwhite. He is also survived by many nephews, nieces, and great nephews and nieces. Frank was the last patriarch of his generation for the Nelson and Lewis families and will be terribly missed. Walter Funeral Home, 4653 Glendale Ave., Toledo OH will hold a visitation on Sunday, May 14th, 2017 from 5pm-7pm. Funeral services will be held on Monday, May 15, 2017 with visitation from 10am-12pm and service at 12pm. Burial service will immediately follow at Toledo Memorial Park.
