Frances Marlene Harner 8/9/1934 – 8/4/2021 Frances Marlene Harner, age 86, of Toledo, Ohio, passed away on Wednesday, August 4, 2021 at the University of Toledo Medical Center after a short illness. She was born on August 9, 1934 to Reverend William M. Spencer and Emily Hazel (Terry) Spencer in Toledo, Ohio. Marlene, as she was known, is survived by her children, Mark Harner, Bryant Harner and Dinah Harner, one grandchild, Nicolas Brocardi-Harner, three nieces and two nephews. Marlene was preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, Richard; her parents and her brothers Herman and William. Marlene graduated from Scott High School in 1952 and the University of Toledo in 1956. She married the love of her life, Richard Lee “Ric” Harner on March 10, 1956 and was married to him for 59 years until his death on August 5, 2015. Upon graduation from the then Toledo University, she taught typing and stenography at Rossford High School. She and Ric moved to Mt. Prospect, Illinois in 1962 and lived there until 1994 when they returned to Toledo to retire. While in suburban Chicago she helped found Northwest Assembly of God church, where she played piano during church services every Sunday and Wednesday and became known to everyone as Aunt Marlene. She rejoined the workforce in the 1970s, working as an executive secretary at the Procon division of Universal Oil Products and later as executive secretary at Northwest Assembly of God church. After returning to Toledo, she joined Calvary Church and remained a congregant until her Lord and Savior called her home to Heaven on August 4, 2021. Visitation and will be held from 3:00 – 8:00 pm on Monday, August 9, 2021 at Walter Funeral Home 4653 Glendale Avenue Toledo Ohio 43614. Funeral services will be held at 11:00am at Calvary Church 1360 Conant Street Maumee OH 43537. Burial will made at Toledo Memorial Park in Sylvania, Ohio following the funeral. The family requests donations be made to Calvary Church in Marlene’s memory.
