Fanchon E. Burgin

January 30, 1921 — February 25, 2018

Fanchon E. (Kreps) Burgin, age 97, passed away Sunday, February 25, 2018 at Perrysburg Commons, surrounded by her loving family. Fanchon was born on January 30, 1921 to Hazen and Alice (Dutcher) Kreps. Fanchon was graduated from Libbey High School in 1938. Her graduation gift from her parents was a bus ticket to California. At age17 she traveled alone to Los Angeles and stayed with her Aunt Fanchon and Uncle Billy Williams. She enrolled in Beauty School and received her Beautician License in Hollywood, California. When she returned home from California in 1939 she went on a date with her brother’s friend, Verrill Burgin, to see the July 4th fireworks. They were married September 21, 1940. Fanchon worked as a Beautician at the old University Beauty Shop on Bancroft until they started their family. She became a stay-at-home Mom who was very involved in the Mother’s Club at Heatherdowns Elementary School. She and Verrill enjoyed traveling, attending every American Bowling Congress National tournament for 31 consecutive years. They also traveled to Hawaii, Switzerland, Austria and Germany. Most recently, she enjoyed revisiting Switzerland with a slide show of the many photos taken by Verrill. She was a member of Zion United Methodist Church, Triune Chapter #344 OES, and Dendarah Court #10 LOSNA. Being part of the Greatest Generation, her values were very much shaped by her experiences during the Great Depression and her faith. Fanchon is survived by sons Bruce (Gail) of Holland, David (Sharon) of Maumee, and Brian (Theresa) of Toledo, and daughter Judy (Rich) Leu of Northwood; 8 grandchildren, and 14 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; brother Keith Kreps, and granddaughter, Lauren Burgin. Friends may call at the Walter Funeral Home, 4653 Glendale Avenue on Friday, March 2, 2018 from 3 to 8 pm, and Saturday, March 3, 2018 from 9:00 am, followed by the Funeral service at 10:30 am, Pastor Debo Onabanjo, of Zion UMC, officiating. Interment will follow at Toledo Memorial Park, with luncheon to follow at the church The family would like to thank the staff at Perrysburg Commons and Heartland Hospice for their care of Fanchon.
