Ethel G. Schick, 95, formerly of Toledo, Ohio, passed away at Genacross Lutheran Village, Holland, OH, on March 24, 2017 after a long slow decline. She was born in Toledo, Ohio on October 16, 1921 to George and Henrietta Gors. She graduated from Oak Harbor High School, after spending three years at Libbey High School, in 1939. Ethel was a stay-at-home mom during the 1950’s, and was active in Girl Scouting during that time. She and her co-leader taught their troop crafts, knitting, and sewing. She was an excellent seamstress who created many items including her daughter’s wedding dress, designer worthy ensembles, and Barbie clothes. She knitted, crocheted, painted, counted cross-stitched, made a doll house with miniature furniture for her daughter. She discovered the joys of driving her car in the early 1960’s and, over the years, travelled extensively for a job all over the eastern United States. She worked in the offices of Seaway Foodtown, Maumee, OH from 1977 until her retirement in 1986. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her former spouse, Robert O. Schick, and brother Donald Gors. She is survived by her sister Marion Radde and brother George Gors, Jr.; daughters Judith E. Dilworth (Robert, Jr.) and Barbara Hansen; six grandchildren, Katherine Jesse (Neal), Robert Hansen (Jackie), Nathan Hansen (Kimberly), Melissa Hansen, Carol Hansen, and Jeanette Duncan (Daryl); nine great grandchildren, Oliver and Miles Jesse, Luke and Rachel Hansen, Grace and Caden Hansen, Liam Hansen, and Makenzie and Franklin Duncan. A celebration of Ethel’s life will be held Saturday, April 1, 2017 at Waterville Community Church, 8217 Dutch Rd., Waterville, Ohio with visitation starting at 10:30 a.m. and a memorial service beginning at 12 noon. A light lunch will follow at the church. In lieu of flowers those wishing to make memorial contributions are asked to consider Hospice of Northwest Ohio or the charity of the donor’s choice.
