Erleen Steiger

Erleen R. Steiger, 88, passed away on November 2, 2016 at The Lakes of Monclova Care Center. She was born in Toledo to Louis L. and Rachel E. (Matheis) Becker on August 6, 1928. Erleen lived in the South Toledo her entire life, where she attended Arlington and Harvard Elementary schools and graduated from Libbey High School. Erleen graduated from the University of Toledo with a Bachelor of Education degree. She was a traveling home economics teacher for Toledo Public Schools, with her favorite school being Walbridge Elementary. She retired from full time teaching in the 60’s to be a full time mom to her daughter, but continued to substitute into the 70’s. Erleen loved local history and began volunteering at the Walcott House Museum in Maumee, guiding school children through the Walcott House complex. For many years she also volunteered in the Walcott House Gift Shop. In her later years she enjoyed spending time with her family and taking care of her home. Preceding her in death were her parents and her loving husband, of 52 years, Edward L. Steiger. Left to cherish her memory is her deeply loving daughter and best friend Marcy R. Steiger. Visitation will be at the Walter Funeral Home, 4653 Glendale Avenue on Sunday, November 6th from 2 to 8 p.m. Her funeral service will begin at the funeral home on Monday at 10:30 a.m. with Pastor Rob Johnson officiating. Burial will follow in Ft. Meigs Cemetery, Perrysburg, Ohio Marcy would like to thank The Lakes of Monclova staff for providing her care the last year of her life, and a special thank you to Terry Morganfield-Jones for being a loving friend and caregiver the last two years of her life.
