Ed Woityna, affectionately known as “The General,” passed away Dec. 7, 2021...a day that will truly live in infamy for all that knew him. Dad was preceded in death by all of his siblings including Jake Woityna, Bertha Smalley, Ceil Vetter, Dutchie Mack, & Stella Gozdowski. Ed was a Korean War veteran who survived being left behind enemy lines while installing signal wires. He then returned back to Toledo where he worked for over 30 years at General Mill and where he met his future bride, Dawn Mori. It was love at first sight, and they were happily married for over 50 years with one son, Paul. Ed was a devoted and loving husband who enjoyed traveling, attending mass at St. Clements, and working at the family farm. He was very involved with many of the children in his life, whether it was coaching Paul’s baseball teams, helping his many nieces and nephews, or being a strong father figure to those who had none. Dad truly epitomized what it meant to be part of “The Greatest Generation” and served as an inspiration for those who he worked with, served with, and his family. He is survived by his wife Dawn, son Paul, daughter-in-law Leslie, step- grandson Jared Stormer, and “chosen” son Robert Garber. Visitation will take place Sunday, Dec. 12 from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the Walter Funeral Home, 4653 Glendale Avenue, Toledo. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Gesu Church, 2949 Parkside Blvd, on Monday, Dec. 13 at 10:00 a.m. with burial immediately following in Calvary Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please consider donations to the Toledo Humane Society.
