Dorland “Oley” Olson Dorland "Oley" Olson, age 90 of Toledo, OH passed away peacefully on January 12, 2018. Dorland was born November 2, 1927 to Edward and Crystal Olson, in Le Roy Michigan. Growing up on a farm in rural northern Michigan, Oley developed a love for the great outdoors and spent many days hunting and fishing with his father and brothers, Walter and Arvene. After high school, Oley enlisted in the United States Army during World War Two, rising to the rank of Sergeant in the U.S. Army Medical Corps. He was married to Virginia "Ginny" Olson in 1955 and the two settled in Toledo Ohio. He worked for over thirty years with Union Roofers Local 134, where he also served as union steward and business agent for several years. Politics and voting were also a very important part of Oley's life, as he served on various political boards and committees. Oley was also a very active member of the South Toledo Democratic Club, where he served as an officer and treasurer for many years. He was also a dedicated member of the American Legion Adams Twp. Post #553, and the Knights of Columbus. Oley cherished retirement and spent his retired days traveling across the country with his daughters Shirley, Pamela, and his grandchildren. He also loved spending holidays at his son Ed's house, surrounded by his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. He enjoyed a rich social life with many friends throughout both Ohio and Michigan, and always enjoyed having a beer with close friends and relatives. Dorland is survived by his son Ed Olson, grandchildren Craig (Cristina) D'arcangelo, Traci (Shaun) Taylor, Krista (Adam) D'arcangelo, Ian (Emily) MacFarlane, Erin (Eric) Minturn, Kayley (Luke) Smigielski, and Brandon (Amanda) MacFarlane, seventeen great grandchildren, and honorary daughter Pamela Papp. Dorland was preceded in his death by his loving wife Virginia, daughter Shirley (Mark) MacFarlane, and daughter in law Diane Mattimore-Olson. Visitation will be held on Thursday, January 18th from 4 to 8 p.m. and Friday, January 19th from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. with services to begin at 1 p.m. at the Walter Funeral Home, 4653 Glendale Avenue, Toledo.
