Celebration of Life

Delores Beatrice McFarland was born to George and Hattie (Frazier) Jackson on Jan 6, 1922, in Toledo, Ohio. She departed this life to be with the Lord on March 3, 2025, at the age of 103 years old. She was the fourth child of six children. She attended Toledo Public Schools. During World War II Delores worked for Dohler Jarvis, making equipment to be shipped to the soldiers. She later worked briefly at LaSalles & Cook Department Store as an elevator operator. That job ended when she was disrespected by a customer, and true to her nature she defended herself.

Delores met and was courted by Marcellus McFarland until they married in November of 1947. This union perfectly blended Delores and her daughter Eileen, with Marcellus and his daughters Bobbie and Janet. Their union also produced two additional children, Richard and Jack.

Delores grew up and was baptized at Christ Temple Pentecostal Church. After marriage, she moved her membership to Braden United Methodist Church where she was very active with the United Methodist Women, including serving as the president for a period of time and hosting luncheons for women every Saturday. She also worked as president with the Friendly Center, serving the community. She and Marcellus later moved their membership to Church of the Cross where she remained until she relocated to Stockton, California, to be cared for by her daughter Eileen and son-in-law James. There she united with the Quail Lakes Baptist

Church and later Progressive Community Church, where she remained until she entered into eternal rest.

Delores was blessed to be, and enjoyed being, a stay-a-home mother and wife. She took the role seriously and was very attentive to her 5 children and husband. She enjoyed traveling with the kids, and continued to travel regularly after they all left home. In between travels, Delores enjoyed volunteering at Flower Hospital and Planned Parenthood. She was committed to a healthy lifestyle, which included regular walks and stretching.

Delores was preceded in death by her parents, George and Hattie Jackson; husband, Marcellus; two sons, Richard and Jack McFarland; daughter, Janet Sallie; three sisters, Eileen Fields, Molly’s Johnson and Faye Clark; brother, George Jackson, Jr.; and three grandchildren, Leslie McFarland, James Brown, Jr. and Ryan Brown.

Delores is survived by two daughters, Eileen “Pat” (James) Turner and Bobbie Beasley; an honorary son, James Brown; daughter-in-law, Annie McFarland; sister, Billye Hodges; 16 grandchildren; 46 great-grandchildren; 50 great-great-grandchildren; one great-great-great- grandchild; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. She was adored and will be missed by all who knew her.

A visitation will be held at the Church of The Cross, 1750 Eastgate Road, Toledo, Ohio 43614, on Thursday, March 27th, from 11:00 a.m. until the beginning of her funeral service at Noon, followed by entombment at Highland Memory Gardens, Waterville, Ohio.

Arrangements have been placed in the care of Walter Funeral Home, 419-382-1700.
