Cornelius “Corny” Lewis, age 93, Formally of Ellijay, GA most recently of Perrysburg, OH died April 8th 2018 at St. Lukes Hospital. Corny volunteered with the Civilian Conservation Corp prior to enlisting in the Armed Guard Branch of the U.S. Navy where he served during WWII. He used the GI Bill to attend and graduate from Michigan State University where he met and married his wife of 62 years Mildred (Hach) Lewis and then worked his whole career as a Plant Quarantine Inspector for the U.S. Department of Agriculture. He attended Church of the Cross UMC. He died peacefully surrounded by his loving family. He is survived by sons Thomas Lewis and Keith (Kathy) Lewis, and daughter Karen (Lewis) Van Patten, grandchildren Sarah (Lewis) Stewart, Daniel (Deborah) Lewis, Elise Van Patten, and great-grand daughter Anna Lewis. He was preceded in death by his wife Mildred. The family wishes to thank all of the friends he made at Perrysburg Commons during the last 5 years and the excellent staff at St. Lukes Hospital. Visitation will be from 2-8 pm Friday April 13th at the Walter Funeral Home, 4653 Glendale Avenue, with services at 11am Saturday April 14th at Church of the Cross UMC, 1750 Eastgate Road.
