Charlene L (Offenbacher) Vornbrock, 92, of Toledo, formerly of Piqua OH, passed away on Sunday Feb. 17, 2019. She was born in Uhrichsville, OH on Jan 31, 1927 to the late Paul & Mary Offenbacher. She was also proceeded in death by her husband of 52 years, H. Lee Vornbrock, as well as her step father Ray Wooddell who was ‘Dad’ to her, & brother Ross Offenbacher. Charlene was a 1946 graduate of Piqua Central High School. She was a stenographer in her early years, & then worked as a secretary for many years in the Piqua area. Her most recent and cherished place of employment was the former Staley-Zimmerlin Insurance Agency in Piqua. Charlene loved helping others and after retiring, volunteered at the Upper Valley Medical Center for many years. She had a fondness for animals, reading, & working crossword puzzles. Charlene always had a young spirit. Her sense of humor was dry, sometimes mildly inappropriate, but she made everyone smile. She loved being the center of attention with her witty remarks & random dance moves. She loved a variety of music... Daniel O’Donnell & the Gaithers, & some would say she became a “groupie” for locally known Toledo bands...Sanctus Real & Skoobie Snaks. Charlene had a compassionate spirit & enjoyed making people happy, often looking after other elderly women making sure all were cared for. She loved to talk, initiating small chats with store clerks or waitresses or whomever crossed her path, to make them feel special. Most of all Nanny, as she was known to her family, made us feel special. She loved us greatly, never failing to have pictures of us on hand to show us off to others. Nanny was one very proud mom, grandma & great grandma. She had special bonds with her son, grandchildren & six great grandchildren. It was a joy for us to watch her strong heart in action as she lived her life. She will be missed, but we’re grateful for all of the warm memories she left behind. We take comfort that she’s in heaven now with her loved ones, and her Savior, Jesus. Charlene is survived by her son, Craig (Beverly) Vornbrock of Toledo OH. Her grandchildren Danielle (Jason) Harsh of Sylvania OH, Amanda (Casey) Barefield of Mt Juliet TN & Jonathan Vornbrock of Charlotte NC.
