Carolyn C. Wells, 84, of Toledo, OH passed away peacefully on April 1, 2018 at Ohio Living Swan Creek. Carolyn was born May 9, 1933 in Maysville, KY to Merrill L. and Margaret D. Carrigan and grew up in Dayton, Ohio. Carolyn married Lowell Jackson (Jack) Wells August 6, 1955. This summer they would have celebrated 63 years of marriage together. Carolyn is survived by her husband, Jack, her children, Beth (Shane) Weeks, sons Warren (Kathy) Wells and David (Lisa) Wells, six grandchildren, her brother Merrill (Pat), sister-in-law Janice P. Carrigan, and many nieces and nephews. She took pride in her heritage and membership in the Mayflower Society. She was a wonderful mother, grandmother, and caretaker and always kept a beautiful home. Countless friends and family enjoyed her warm hospitality. Carolyn had a lifetime of service. She was the Judicial President of women students at Ohio Wesleyan University and was a member of Pi Beta Phi. She served on the Board of Trustees for eleven years as a representative from the Ohio West Conference of the United Methodist Church. She served on the Board of Trustees at Epworth United Methodist Church, was in charge of choosing all of the furnishings of the addition to Epworth church in 1993, and taught Sunday school to many children. Carolyn was a past Worthy Matron of Palestine Chapter of Order of Eastern Star and was a trusted advisor in the Order of Rainbow for girls. She taught for Toledo Public Schools, fifth grade at Cherry School and was a teacher at many schools including Jefferson Center and the Crittenden Home. Carolyn enjoyed nature and was an avid birder. She shared many gifts and talents with Girl Scouts and counseled Boy Scouts for several merit badges including ornithology. The family is deeply indebted to the nurses and aids at Ohio Living Healthcare and Hospice for the love and care they have given Carolyn during the past year at Swan Creek. A memorial service will be held in Carolyn’s honor at Epworth United Methodist Church 4855 W Central Ave, Toledo, OH 43615 on Saturday, April 28, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. Memorial contributions can be made to Epworth United Methodist Church or Ohio Living Swan Creek Hospice.
