Carol (Bay) Hensley

Carol (Bay) Hensley passed away peacefully March 24th with family holding her hand. She was born in Toledo, Ohio to parents Rolland and Esther (Miller) Bay on May 1, 1940. She was a proud graduate of Libbey High School in 1958 and went on to graduate in 1962 with a teaching degree from Bowling Green State University, where she was a member of the Delta Zeta Sorority. From there she started her career at Rossford High School as the Home Economics teacher until her retirement in 1992, teaching many young men and women how to cook, sew, take care of money and even caring for a baby. After retirement she loved meeting the other teacher retirees for their luncheons. Throughout Carol’s life she enjoyed spending time at Devils Lake, cooking, gardening, traveling to see family, being a Rainbow Girl and member of the Yondota Chapter #317 Order of the Eastern Stars. Being an only child growing up she was close to her cousin Barton Bay and later with his wife Marian, their children Beverly (Bay)(Gregory) Zmuda and Brian (Linda) Bay, being more like favorite Aunt to them. She was also an “Aunt” to their children Zachary, Alexa, Zohn, and Aubrey Zmuda; Brianna and Brenton Bay. She spent all the holidays and family celebrations with their families. Carol had a smile and laugh that was contagious; it would light up a room. One of the people who will miss her laugh the most is her mail carrier Ron. Carol had a caring heart for dogs and was the proud owner of many throughout her life, leaving behind her beloved Mr. Whiskers. Her parents and young daughter Deborah preceded Carol in death. She leaves behind other beloved cousins and close friends. Visitation will be held at Walter Funeral Home, 4653 Glendale Avenue, April 4th from 5 – 7 p.m. with a Memorial Service at 7 p.m. Burial will be private. Contributions may be made to the Toledo Area Humane Society or to Hospice of NWO. A special thank you to the staff at Perrysburg Commons for their care.
