Carl E. Kuhlman, 91, passed away August 15th, 2016 at Swan Creek Retirement Village. A lifelong resident of Toledo, Carl was born December 29th, 1924 to Caroline (Otte) and Edwin H. Kuhlman. He graduated from Libby High School in 1942 and was inducted into the Army in 1943. He served with the 7th Combat Engineer Battalion in the European Theater. He was awarded five battle stars for the campaigns he participated in, including; the Battle of the Bulge, and the first assault crossing of the Rhine River by the Patton's 3rd army. After the war he attended the University of Toledo. He worked for 38 years for the family business, Kuhlman Corporation. First, as a traffic manager then purchasing manager, and retired as Vice-President. He was a long-time director of the former Ohio Building Material Dealers Association. Carl was a long time member of American Legion Toledo Post #335, Barton Smith Lodge, Scottish Rite, Zenobia Temple, and Temple Guards. He was also a member of Downtown Toledo Kiwanis Club, Toledo Country Club, St Petri Lutheran Church, and the Downtown Coaches Association, as he was a loyal supporter of the University of Toledo football and basketball teams. After retirement, he enjoyed spending time at his cottage at Evans Lake and golfing with his friends. He is survived by his loving family, his wife of 66 years, Jean, daughter Nancy Kuhlman, Son Carl E Kuhlman Jr. (Nancy Ruff) and grandson Dr. Eric Kuhlman (Dr. Raquel Litherland). Graveside services were private with interment at Historic Woodlawn Cemetery.
