Thomas Edward Hruska, born March 29, 1947 to Dolores (Rucki) and Erwin Hruska, passed away to our loving Lord’s arms January 17, 2024, after fighting a long and debilitating battle with Parkinson’s disease. He graduated from Central Catholic High School in 1965, where he played football and surely caused many a nun to turn gray. Tom worked diligently to earn his Eagle Scout ranking in the Boy Scouts of America. Shortly after graduation, Tom enlisted in the Marine Corps and served in the Vietnam War. He remained a proud Marine his entire life.
Tom worked twenty-one years at Haughton Elevator and became a group leader in the sheet metal department. After Haughton’s closing, he finished his career at Owen Illinois Plastics Division/Rexam.
Tom was preceded in death by his parents, sister Sandy, nephew Michael, and brother-in-law Roger. He is survived by his loving sisters, Nadine (Marty), Cindy (John), and brother Mark (Gwen), as well as twelve loving nieces and nephews, and eighteen great nieces and nephews. Tom will be remembered for his quick wit, quirky sense of humor and lifelong military-inspired attention to detail. The family would like to thank the staff at Kingston of Perrysburg for their outstanding compassionate care of Tom, especially Cindy, Linda and Haley, who spent the most time with him. Your kindness will never be forgotten. Additional thanks to Dr. Daniel Levanthal and Dr. Paul Oatis of the VA, and to the Ohio Living Hospice team staff.
Visitation will be held at the Walter Funeral Home, 4653 Glendale Avenue, Toledo, on Sunday, January 21st, from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. Services will begin Monday at 10:00 a.m. at the funeral Home, followed by burial with military honors at Calvary Cemetery.
Memorial contributions in Tom’s memory may be made to Hospice of Northwest Ohio or Ohio Living Hospice.
