Shirley J Harris

Shirley June Harris, 86, passed away May 3, 2017 at home in south Toledo. She was born in Indian Head, Saskatchewan, Canada on June 28, 1930 to Laura and Albert Brewitt where she grew up on a farm and attended a one room schoolhouse. In 1962, she moved from Toronto, Canada to Toledo, Ohio. Shirley worked at Liberty Petroleum where she met lifelong friends and later retired from Owen-Illinois after 14 years as an Executive Secretary. During her time at O-I, Shirley served as a President of the Business & Professional Women’s Club and continued as a member of Samagama. You would often hear opera music playing in her kitchen where she loved to cook and entertain. Attending performances of the Toledo Symphony or the Toledo Opera brought her much joy. In retirement, she took pride in her volunteer role at Toledo Hospital, travelled with friends, grew her cookbook collection and planted a nice garden every year. She is survived by her son Robert (Kimberly) Harris, sister Peggy (Sandy) Sandbeck and sister Vicki (Jim) McMillan, nieces and nephews. There will be no memorial service, but Shirley wished that we all buy ourselves a bouquet of flowers and enjoy it as much as she would.
