Robert G. Harpel age 87 passed away Saturday January 28, 2023. He was born in Perrysburg, Ohio to Robert W. and Zelda J. (Ellerman) Harpel on December 25, 1935. He graduated from Macomber High School and University of Toledo with a bachelors’ degree. He served in the US Army from 1958 to 1964.
Growing up he loved fishing and hockey. He played goalie in the 1952 & 1955 Banquet of Champions for the East Side Rockets. While working at Libbey Glass, Bob went on a blind date and met his future wife, Kathleen Golaszewski. They married June 28, 1958 at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church. This year they would have been celebrated 65 years. In 1978, they joined Heatherdowns Country Club where he and Kathy became active golfers. Over the 30 years he played, he had two hole in ones! He enjoyed creating stone sculptures and had them on display throughout the yard. He loved to travel. In the early years it was with the family to Myrtle Beach every summer, at the lake with the grandkids and once he retired, taking cruises throughout the world almost every year. As he got older, he enjoyed riding his bike, taking pictures, working on his computer and rescuing lost cats.
Surviving is his wife Kathy, daughters Cindi (John) Wurzell and Chris Lyons. Four grandchildren, Robb Potts, Mike (Andrea) Potts, Colleen (Robert) Knight and Elizabeth (Chris) Massingill, five great grandchildren, and blackie the cat.
The family will receive friends from 12:00 to 2:00 p.m., on Saturday, February 11, 2023 at Walter Funeral Home, 4653 Glendale Avenue, Toledo, Ohio. His memorial service will begin at 2:00 p.m.
