Patricia J Garver

March 27, 1944 — February 3, 2021

Patricia (Pat) Cartwright Garver passed away from bile duct cancer Feb. 3, 2021 at the age of 76 at Hospice of Northwest Ohio. Pat was born on March 27, 1944 to Jack and June (Emerson) Cartwright in Warren, Ohio. The family moved to Toledo in 1953 and Pat graduated from Libbey High School in 1962 . She was a proud cowboy and worked on many class reunions. She married, Denny Garver, her next door neighbor, in 1964 and from that union came two amazing sons, Tony (Gloria) and Rob (Shellie). While being a stay-at-home mom, she became active in NOW and was a staunch supporter of women’s rights her entire life. In 1977, she graduated from UT with an associate degree in business/legal assisting. She was employed for 2 years for Green and Lackey but decided to become her own boss and opened a bookkeeping business in her home. Pat loved to help people, especially when it came to finances. Her wise counsel and expertise in the financial field was a gift enjoyed by many. Pat was very politically minded and served as Chairperson of the Mayor’s Affirmative Action Board, Member of Toledo Consumer Protection Board, Democratic Ward Chairman, Toledo Common Cause Steering Committee, instrumental in the development of WERC, a CETA funded program. She truly was a force to be reckoned with. She worked at the Center for Choice for many years where she had numerous dear friends who are strong, determined women that protect women’s rights. In her later years she fell in love with genealogy and relished “playing with dead relatives”. She took the Cartwright and Emerson family back to the 1600. Pat loved a good party and so enjoyed her involvement with her Any Wednesday buds and her Manhattan’s bunch. Having a tipple and solving the problems of the world was her favorite thing. Pat also loved to travel and instilled that love in her boys as they took camping trips out west and to the U.P. Making jewelry was another passion where she found such joy in giving away her beautiful bracelets. Pat is survived by her two sons, Tony (Gloria) and Rob (Shellie) , her grandchildren Sydney and Jack Garver, Nick, Katherine and Elizabeth Garver, and Rachel Corey as well as her sister Sue (Fred) Cohen and her nieces, Renee (Rob) Simon, Jackie (Andy) White. Due to the COVID virus, services and internment will be private. A celebration of her life with take place at a later date. Donations can be made to the donor’s choice.
