Linda K. Collins

Linda K. Collins, 78, of Maumee, Ohio passed away Wednesday, December 12, 2018 at St. Luke’s Hospital. She was born in Toledo, Ohio on September 12, 1940 to Addison and Buerl Schmitt. While attending Libbey High School, Linda started her nursing career as a volunteer Candy Striper at St. Vincent Hospital. Following high school, Linda attended and graduated from the Riverside School of Nursing. She worked for many years as a Licensed Practical Nurse at Toledo Hospital, various nursing homes and doctors’ offices. After serving in nursing in 1994, she was employed as the Outreach Coordinator for the Maumee Senior Center, where in January 2002 she received a Citizen Commendation and Award given by the Maumee Police Department. Linda was an active member of Bethel Lutheran Church for 57 years. She was also a member of the Toledo Craftsman’s Guild where her specialty was artificial floral design and offered her services to many customers planning special personal events. For many years she volunteered at the former Medical College of Ohio and the St. Luke’s Hospital auxiliary. Linda was a warm caring person, who gave freely of her time, gifts and talents to many in need and worked quietly often unnoticed. Linda was preceded in death by her parents and her daughter Janell. She is survived by her husband of 57 years Fred; son Scott (Denise) Collins of Illinois; grandchildren Lauren, Caitlin and Michael; great-grandson Aaron; and sister Nanette (Colin) Gates of Indiana. Also surviving are many nieces and nephews and numerous friends. Visitation will be held on Sunday, December 16th at Walter Funeral Home, 4653 Glendale Avenue, Toledo, Ohio from 3 to 8 p.m. Funeral services will be held Monday at 11 a.m. at Bethel Lutheran Church, 1853 South Avenue, Toledo. Burial will follow in Ottawa Hills Memorial Park. Memorial contributions in Linda’s memory are suggested to be made to Bethel Lutheran Church, Hospice of NWO, or a charity of the donor’s choice.
