Joanne C Moore

Joanne C. Moore passed away peacefully August 18, 2021 after a brief illness at the age of 93. She was born in Toledo, Ohio and graduated from Central Catholic High School (class of 1946). Joanne entered the Sisters of Mercy religious order where she took the name Sister Mary Gilbert. During her twenty-five years as a Sister of Mercy, she obtained her BA in Chemistry and BS in Education at Mary Manse College Toledo, OH; Registered Nurse Diploma at St. Rita School of Nursing in Lima, Ohio and later her Master of Education degree at Xavier University in Cincinnati, Ohio. Over the course of her professional life, she taught 5th through 8th grade students in many Catholic elementary schools throughout Ohio, practiced as a registered nurse, later becoming a director of nursing services. She became a licensed Nursing Home Administrator and held a variety of administrative and regional manager positions and lastly was employed as an Ombudsman for the State of Ohio. Joanne remained strong in her Catholic faith and was dedicated to helping others. She corresponded with many, believing in the personal touch of a hand-written card or letter. After retiring, Joanne found much pleasure in crafting and gardening. She was a long-time member of the Anthony Wayne Garden Club and enjoyed the work and the friendship of those in the gardening community. She was well traveled and proud of her Irish heritage. She also had a passion for antiques, art, collectibles, and her weekly scratch off lottery tickets. Joanne has been reunited with her family in heaven. Parents, George Moore, Ladonna and Steve Osowski; brothers Riley Moore, John Moore; sisters Kathleen (George) Lindeman, and Martha Schmude. She is survived by her sister-in-law, Phyllis Moore and by many nieces, nephews, and friends. Our family would like to especially thank Joanne’s nieces Kim Schmude and Gail Mikolajczak for all their love, care and support given over the years. Joanne will also be fondly missed by the residents and staff of the Gardens of St. Francis in Oregon, Ohio where she lived for the past 3 years. A memorial mass will be held at St. Patrick of Heatherdowns, 4201 Heatherdowns Blvd, Toledo, OH 43614 on Saturday, October 23, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to Little Sisters of the Poor, http://littlesistersofthepoor.org/donate-to-lsp/
