Joan Susan Wilms, a caring wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away on September 12, 2021, her 78th birthday, holding the hand of her beloved husband, Don, of 57 years. She was born to Joe and Helen Fekel on September 12th, 1943. She attended Brooklyn High School in Ohio and graduated, winning the 1961 Betty Crocker Homemaker of the Year award. That same year, an up-and-coming singer named Elvis Presley sang “Love me Tender” at the school dance. After graduating from high school, Joan found true love with a dashing young executive from the bank where they worked. Joan is survived by her loving husband, Don, her sons Todd (Erin), of Menlo Park, California, and Jason, of Traverse City, Michigan, and four grandchildren, Maia, Chaz, Holden, and Beckett. Joan expressed love by serving and taking care of others. From making some of the best Hungarian food this side of Budapest to baking cookies with her grandkids, Joan exhibited love and caring for those fortunate enough to meet her. She also had a wicked tennis serve and a take-no-prisoners approach to pinochle. She lived for God, family, friends and spreading joy. The visitation will be held at Walter Funeral Home 4653 Glendale Ave Toledo, Ohio 43614 (419-382-1700) from 2:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, Sept 16th, followed by funeral services at Trinity Lutheran Church in Toledo, Ohio at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, Sept 17th.
