Jean E. (Gautz) Gable, age 83, of south Toledo passed away peacefully surrounded by family on Wednesday, May 25, 2022 at Toledo Hospital. After controlling a blood disorder for 13 years it advanced into Acute Leukemia. Jean was born on October 14, 1938 in Adrian, Michigan to Floyd H. & Dorothy L. (Zeizert) Gautz. She attended a one room school until consolidation of three rural schools in 1946. She graduated from Adrian High School in 1956. She attended Toledo Hospital School of Nursing “Class of 1959” where she was employed until her retirement in 2000. After retirement she and her husband wintered in Florida. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church since 1963. She married her husband Gene H. Gable on April 16, 1961. They celebrated 53 years of marriage until his passing in 2014. Jean was a gracious, loving and caring mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, and a sweet wonderful friend to have. She will be greatly missed by many. Jean enjoyed spending time with family and friends, gardening, and watching the birds and other wildlife in the backyard. She spent countless hours doing genealogy research, crafting, cross stitch, and crocheting many afghans for family. She was a dedicated supporter of her children and grandchildren’s activities. Jean is survived by her 3 children, Douglas L. Gable, David A. (Diana) Gable, and Nancy L. (David Hamilton) Gable; grandchildren, Ashley, Brittany, Rachael, Kyle (Jenny) and Kelsey; great-grandchildren, Hayden, Emily and Elijah. She is also survived by siblings, Larry (Michelle) Gautz, James Gautz, Ruth (Roger) Stygles, Loren (Aico) Gautz, Paul (Debbie) Gautz; sister-in-law, Eileen Gautz; brother-in-law, Charles Claybaugh; and many nieces and nephews. Along with her husband she was preceded in death by her parents, Floyd and Dorothy Gautz; brothers, Dean and Wayne Gautz; in-laws, Harold & Clara Gable, Vivian Gable, Janet and Ed Kline and Ilene Claybaugh. Memorial contributions in memory of Jean can be made to The Toledo Clinic Cancer/Hematology Department, American Red Cross, or a charity of the donor’s choice. Visitation and her funeral service will be held on Thursday, June 2nd at Walter Funeral Home, 4653 Glendale Avenue, Toledo, from 10:00 a.m. until the start of the service at Noon. Burial will follow at Highland Memory Gardens, Waterville, Ohio.
