Gary Jaeck Olson On Thursday, August 20, 2020, Gary gained his wings. Gary was 78 years old and loved life. Those who knew Gary, knew him to be a true family man, who loved a good party. He always surrounded himself with family, friends, and relatives. He loved his wife Barbara Jean for 58 years of marriage, and will be with her in spirit for eternity. Gary and Barb had 4 daughters, which have been the light of their lives. He was also blessed with 12 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren, and his rescue pup Murphy. Not sure who rescued who, but Murphy has been well loved. Gary was known for his cooking. If there was company coming, it was a party, and that meant food. Gary cooked for everyone and anyone that came. Nobody ever left hungry. If the grill was smoking, most likely the best BBQ chicken was sure to be cooking. The smell brought friends and neighbors quickly to the table. “Need a beer?” was always the first question he asked anyone walking up the driveway or through the side door. He always had a cold one for you. Gary spent his working life as a salesman for Sysco Foodservice and he knew everyone. He never met a stranger; you were sure to be friends immediately, especially if you were lucky enough to get the barstool next to him. Gary loved his gardens. Hours were spent planting and growing anything he could. Vegetables, flowers, weeds, it didn’t matter, he just liked growing it. Gary’s daughters and grandchildren were the most important to him. He always gave his all for each one of them. He coached sports, he went to Father-Daughter Dances, he taught them how to choose men wisely as he was not about to let anyone hurt his girls. The grandchildren called him Papa, a name that fit him best. All of the grandchildren will never forget Papa’s Horse bites, and to run past him quickly if you were going for 2nds on dinner. Gary will be surely missed by all that knew him. He is survived by his wife Barbara Olson, daughters: Julie (Steve) Wonser, Kristy (Doug) Kolacki, Karrie (Nick) Metzger. Grandchildren: Alexis, Josh, and Meghan Wonser, Chelsea, Zach, and Erinn Kolacki, Katie (Tommy) Vanderhorst, Courtney and Christopher Metzger, Andy (Lindsey) Lange, Chad (Miranda) Lange, and Jayme Lange, 5 Great Grandchildren: Elyse, Amelia, Maximus, Lucy, and Finnigan. Sisters in Law Judy (Dick) Klippstein and Nancy (Ed) Perry. He was proceeded in death by his parents Lillian and Sydney Olson, brother Dennis Olson, and his oldest daughter Jenny Lange. The family would like to say a special Thank You to The Promedica Hospice Team, Ebeid Hospice staff, The Promedica Therapy Staff, and the Promedica Home Health Care staff.
