Donald Edward Kierstead

Donald Edward Kierstead 6-5-1936 4-7-2021 Donald Edward Kierstead, 84, of Toledo, passed away on April 7, 2021. He was born in Toledo to Edward and Esther (Weber) Kierstead. Don attended Trinity Lutheran Grade School, he was a 1954 graduate of Libbey High School, 1958 graduate of University of Toledo, and took graduate classes at Concordia University. Don worked as a school teacher in Lutheran schools in Indiana and in the Lake School system here in the Toledo area. He also worked as a radiology technician at the former Maumee Valley Hospital, he worked part time at WCWA Radio Station and as a real estate appraiser for the Lucas County Auditor’s Office until his retirement in 2001. Don was a long time member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Concordia Lutheran and Bethel Lutheran. At Bethel he was very involved serving in many capacities: President of Church Council, choir narrator, organizing the Sunday service details, and became the Lay Pastor of the Church serving with Pastor Jon Bell. Don is survived by his wife, Janet (O’Neil) Kierstead; children Karen (Glenn) Schroder, Kevin (Karen) Kierstead, Kristine (Brian) Dillon, Kimberly (Thomas) Sauerwein, Cary (Jenny) Kuhl and Rick Kuhl; grandchildren Kelly Potts, Cole (Stephanie) Kierstead, James and Alex Walker, Melissa (Ryan) Dickson; greatgrandson Jack Kierstead; sister Janet (Jack) Koechley of Ocala, FL., and also many cousins; a niece and a nephew. A memorial celebration will be held at Bethel Lutheran Church, 1853 South Ave., Toledo, Ohio, on Wednesday, May 26th at 11:00 a.m. Inurnment will follow at Toledo Memorial Park.
